Hillman is located on highway M-32, a major east-west thoroughfare, with the M-33 intersection just 10 miles away. It is just 22 miles to US-23, and it is 45 miles to 1-75 at Gaylord and 88 miles to 1-75 at Alger.

Hillman is conveniently centrally located between Northeastern Michigan's industrial centers. Alpena is just 22 miles to the east, and Gaylord is 45 miles west, both directly accessible via highway M-32. Cheboygan is a 55 mile drive, and Detroit and Grand Rapids are both just over 200 miles away.


Cultural Amenities:

Northeastern Michigan Lower Michigan offers a truly varied cultural experience. The area is home to the acclaimed Jesse Besser Museum and Alpena Planetarium. Live theatre companies can be found in the neighboring cities of Alpena, Gaylord, Grayling, West Branch and Cheboygan.

The area is home to several exciting annual events. Mill River festival celebrates Hillman's rich heritage on the Thunder Bay River. Fishernan flock to several regional fishing festivals each year, including the Brown Trout Festival and Nautical Days Festival. The area also celebrates its extensive agricultural history through lively county fairs and harvest celebrations, such as Applefest and the Posen Potato Festival.


Twenty lakes in twenty minutes is a phrase often heard when speaking of Northeastern Lower Michigan. Fishing, wildlife viewing, and water sports are all popular attractions at the area's innumerable lakes. The area is also referred to as the golf Mecca of the Midwest, with numerous courses ranging from mildly demanding to greens that can challenge even the most talented golfers.


Hillman boasts two Lutheran, three Methodist, one Baptist, one Episcopalian, one Catholic, one non-denominational, and one United Brethren church.



Located on the 45th parallel, residents of Northeastern Michigan enjoy four seasons, including pleasant spring weather, hot summer days, beautiful fall colors, and snowy winters.

Medical Facilities:

Hillman boasts quality family care through Thunder Bay Community Health Services, with a location in Hillman as well as nearby Atlanta and Rogers City. Alpena Regional Medical Center, located 22 miles east of Hillman, provides full-service health care, including a newly expanded U of M Cancer Treatment Center. Nursing home care is provided by MediLodge of Hillman, a skilled nursing facility, and Hillman Haven, a new assisted living facility.
